The Naked Bonkers Twin Brothers

The Naked Bonkers Twin Brothers

KTM Superduke R and KTM Superduke GT. As we all know already its practically the same bike with large displacement of 1,301cc V-Twin, holding up a 23 litre fuel tank and weights more than 200kgs. Then again we’re not here for the specs or review! since MSF Superbikes defies most if not all conventional 2 wheel racing where we could even have a massive tourer on the race track going against the more abled sportsbike.

Upon looking at this comparison on their race-ability , we’re pretty sure you guys had in mind that the GT probably had a higher top speed thanks to its fairings and taller windshield whilst the R had a better drive due to its mid torque range. We have to admit, that was our initial thoughts but not till closer analysis. The SDR is sprinting at the top speed of 234.5kmh while leaving the GT behind clocking around 229.1kmh.

Then we might have thought that the SDR might be doing a greater job squaring off the corners faster than the GT. Im afraid our perception has failed us again. Below is a comparison on the sector clearance

Superduke GT vs Superduke R
sector 1 32.25 vs 31.230
sector 2 33.615 vs 33.767
sector 3 45.646 vs 46.170
sector 4 37.690 vs 38.390

As you can see, there’s not much of a difference although it shows a small distance between both bike . Possibly around half a bike to a bike distance from each other.

As our common practice of quickly jumping into conclusion, the Superduke GT clearly shows its advantage that it is a faster bike to race on as compared to the SDR thus making it the winner in this showdown. Unfortunately we are wrong again. The racer that took on the chequered flag first is #898 Kenneth Chan on his Superduke R!

The easy explanation to the above scenario is that both the bike is fairly similar and both rider of Superduke GT (ridden by Andrew Wee #554 and Superduke R (ridden by Kenneth Chan #898) is also a close competitor against each other but having said that, most are all rookie racers and the choice of machines has yet to define or led us to a clear advantage towards the race results or competitiveness.

Therefore, if you have a motorcycle and you are dead sure that its not built for the race track. Perhaps you might wanna think again. Sure its not the best tool to race on but these guys had a blast of their time racing on a machine that’s pre-determined by the public that its not a race bike. Yeah, yeah, yea, shut that hatch already, #898 Kenneth Chan is also an Overall Champion for Toyo Super Rookie 2019.
